Read the Wind cannot be 'drained'. It's a preperation, not an enchantment. Simply put, Favorable Winds is superfluous and isn't necessary when using Read the Wind. Also, the arrow speed buff from Read the Wind alone is actually 4x arrow speed, not 2x like the skill description says. It's just a little bug that Anet never bothers to fix.

thanks for clearing that up. (and even before I asked! haha) I was just noticing that earlier while messing around with a Flatbow. I thought it was a bug or something.. grr, was hoping I could use Barrage with the same arrow flight time RtW gives (while using a Flatbow), curses!

Just to let ya'll know A.Net hasn't responded to my submission of this bug. I've been "reminding" them about once a week to no avail. Go figure.

What exactly is the purpose of using RTW instead of KA for spike dmg? I've hardly done any PvP as of yet, but KA seems to me like it'd do much better damage?

When you shoot an arrow it has a slow speed and can miss even with a short bow so RtW is there to make sure you hit your enemy w/o missing. You can use KA for arenas but RtW is perfered in tombs due to it's speed and extra damage.

There's a few other reasons.
1. You don't get the winnowing damage.
2. You have to spend points into wilderness.
3. Orders don't work with it.
Kindle has it's advantages though. It does have more pure damage, isn't countered as heavily by shield's up, and it's damage doesn't stack on top of the arrow damage, so things like prot spirit and life bond wouldn't hurt it's damage (but shielding hands and warr dam reduction of course would hurt it more).

KA adds fire damage on top, so surely you could still use winnowing?

KA changes it from physical to elemental damage, so winnowing no longer works.

Are you sure it changes the main damage to fire? I thought it added fire damage on top of the regular bow physical damage.

It changes it to fire damage. You'd think it would add fire damage since that damage is separated, but it's not.
Ignite on the other hand, does not convert the damage.

I would like this confirmed also. According to the skill description it does NOT specifically say it changes the arrow dmg to fire. This is the desription::
Quote:
For 24 seconds, your arrows deal an additional 3-20 fire damage.
|
An additional should mean it adds fire dmg on top of your physical arrow dmg, however, additional makes it seem like it is already doing fire dmg. What gives? no where else in the description does it mention arrow dmg change...
has anyone tested this yet? is there really a WAY to test dmg types?
maybe ill try...testing....somehow...lol

noooo now ranger spikers are gonna have another +6 per arrow...I guess I'll die in .15 seconds rather than .20 now.

You can tell that it changes that damage type to fire because you can run Conjure Flame with Kindle Arrows, even without a fiery bow string.

Are you sure about this? Your probably right its just if you run kindle and attack someone under Mist Form, only the kindle damages. Try it though it may be that its just bugged against that skill because i've also always up till i had that encounter thought it changed it all to fire.
Anyway someone else could test this that would be great.

Edit: Yes sorry I was thinking Mist Form blocked physical attacks, but yes as it states
For 8-18 seconds, you cannot take or deal damage from attacks. So yeah any attacks either Elemental or otherwise deal no damage, though kindle still hits..which was where i messed up
